About Clash:
Music. Magazine. Mass Appeal.
In this issue:
A meteor across a dark sky, Kai-Isaiah Jamal is lighting up modern culture with their grace, tenacity, and style. The first trans model to be nominated for Model Of The Year at the 2023 British Fashion Awards, the first Black trans model to walk for Louis Vuitton’s menswear show, they were lauded as a “voice of a generation” by none other than the late Virgil Abloh.
Now they’re tackling their most ambitious – and most personal – project yet. Infatuated by music from a young age, it’s become a source of strength and a place of respite. From teenage years spent devouring Dizzee Rascal and Missy Elliott, through an ongoing fascination with American songwriter Mk.gee, Kai has omnivorous taste – and now it’s time for them to add to this tapestry.
Following years of work, Kai-Isaiah Jamal is now ready to unveil music of their own. Utilising the moniker Kissin’ Teef, they’re ready to speak their truth to the world, to be a beacon for like-minded voices, and break down yet more barriers. A songwriter of profound emotional gravitas, Kissin’ Teef presents a circularity within Kai’s life – to progress, they’re re-embracing their roots.
As Kai puts it: “I want to transcend this idea of what trans people can be like. There isn't just one format for us, there isn't just one type of music.”

Where are we?
Disko is in Cambridge, Ontario. It's about an hour west of Toronto. We're specifically located in the Galt area, which is a beautiful old downtown with nice shops. It's worth the drive.
