About Prologue:

Prologue is a magazine based in Madrid that is concerned with the built environment. It uses and consults an array of disciplines that are often outside of the confines of architecture, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of forces that comprise our built world.

In addition to mapping the landscape of disciplines that comprise the built world, it is also interested in mapping the array of voices and registers that critique and contribute to it. It blurs the dichotomy of the high registers of academic writing and the emergent, rapidly evolving, and ubiquitous language being shaped on the internet.

It is run by a small team of dedicated students from the IE University School of Architecture and Design, and is always welcoming more voices and contributions. It continually tries to put the young and curious in conversation with the established and knowledgeable.

Its upcoming edition is titled ‘END +’ and is concerned with the general ambience of crisis in the age of climate catastrophe and rogue capitalism. It will feature voices as diverse as the Lebanese Architect Lina Gotmeh, the British artist James Bridle, among many students, architects, artists, designers and academics.

In this issue:

Every era is faced with watershed moments that signify the end. These apocalyptic moments, such as the nuclear age, have come and passed but still leaves trails of their anxiety in our lives. This indicates, if anything, that these near moments bring about revelation and rebirth. However, there is a sense to which the existential knife-edge we find ourselves on now is unprecedented. Amidst the suffocating ambience of the climate emergency and the fragility of democracy, the mood in the contemporary public square is one of doom, and fatalism. We’re on the cusp of a variety of frontiers that are ushering in the final curtain. IS THIS AN END TO ALL ENDS?
